Being vulnerable is hard
Being honest is hard
Fighting the voices in your head that say you are not enough is hard
Trying to smile through the pain is hard
Sleepless nights are hard
Life is hard

We all need a friend to lean on
A friend to call home
But what about when our fears and traumas are so great,
We push everyone away?
Will someone be brave enough to stay?
Will someone look at you and your mistakes and still think you are enough?
That you are worthy to give a chance to and worthy of love?
Will someone stick by your side even when you doubt them?
Will someone stand by you when your fears take over?

If you have a friend that stays,
keep them close to your side
Those type of friends are rare and precious

But what if…
You have them, but you are still too afraid to open up?
What if after years of friendship, you still can’t face your fears?
You still have sleepless nights—overthinking your life?
What if you are still too afraid to tell them everything you have faced?

Maybe you could be a little brave
Take one step at a time
Take one deep breath
Let go of the lies
Let go of the fear
They already promised they would be there
They have shown time and time again that your weakness is actually your strength
Take a little step of faith and utter the words,
“I need you; I can’t do this alone anymore”

Will you still have trouble sleeping sometimes?
Yes
Will your fears and trauma still hold you back sometimes?
Yes

But…
At least you know you are not alone
At least you have a friend to call home
At least you have someone to lean on when life hits you hard

Yes—it’s hard to open up
Yes—it’s hard to trust again after so many heartbreaks
Yes— it’s hard to sleep when your mind is overthinking and over complicating things
But at least you know you are not alone

Face your fears
Face you trauma
Face your pain
Be brave enough to lean on someone
Be brave enough to tell them your fears

Have courage to look them in the eye and say you’re not alright when you’d rather lie
Have courage to lean into their embrace and cry
Have courage to tell them bit by bit
What’s keeping you up at night

Leaning on someone
Asking for help
Isn’t weakness
It’s refusing to give up
Refusing to let your past decide who’s in control

Be brave
Find someone you can trust
Tell them bit by bit your fears and hurts
Lean a little more on them and less on yourself

Day by day
Year by year
You will learn you can face your fears
You can face your trauma
You can face your hurts…

With a friend by your side
With a friend to help you through the sleepless nights
With a friend to lean on
With a friend to walk this hard road alongside you
With a friend who you can look to and talk to without fear
With a friend you can trust
With a best friend
With a friend you can truly call HOME

“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
-Proverbs 18: 24
