As I sit in my bedroom
I hear voices all around
They mock and tease me
They tell me I should be worried
and I should fear
I tremble as I sit in my room
Trying to shut out these voices inside my head
that never seem to go away
In desperation I cry out, “God, help me!”

Suddenly the voices vanish
The fear disappears,
along with the worry and doubt

Suddenly a still, small whisper
echoes around the room,
“Be still and know I am God”

I breathe in deeply,
for suddenly a fragrance fills the room
so pure and lovely I can’t seem to explain
I feel a peace wash over me
I stretch out my hands and whisper,
“Take these thoughts away;
take this fear away”

Suddenly I feel like Someone
is taking something out of my hands
I look down, but don’t see anything
but I feel relief—
like a burden has been lifted off my shoulders
I breathe in deeply
“Thank you,” I whisper

I suddenly realize I’m no longer trembling
I look up and gasp,
for in front of me stands a Man
He’s dressed in a white robe
and has beautiful eyes
He holds out His hand to me
and whispers in a voice
more beautiful than words can describe,
“I will take away your fear
I will take away the thoughts and anxiety
Take my hand, dear heart,
and be still and know I am God”

I hesitate at first,
but then reach out for His hand
As soon as I do, I feel as if I’m floating
and all around me there is peace—
peace so strong I can feel it
I breathe in the fragrance again,
for it is stronger than ever
I feel Him squeeze my hand
I look up into His eyes
and see love and compassion
and understanding in His eyes

I fall into His arms and begin to cry
I don’t even know why—
maybe because of the fragrance
or maybe because of how He looked at me,
but all I know
is that I want to stay in His arms
for the rest of my life

Suddenly He lets go
He bends down
and gets eye to eye with me
“Fear is a liar,” He whispers,
”Trust in Me and I will take away the fear”
I nod and He leans down
and kisses me on my forehead,
and when He does,
I feel another wave of peace wash over me,
but not just over my body—
over my thoughts and feelings
and into my heart

I close my eyes, feeling relief and peace
When I open them again,
He is gone,
but the fragrance and peace
is still in the room

I fall to my knees
and thank my Father
for revealing Himself to me,
and for taking away my fear,
and for loving me no matter what

With a heart full of peace
I praise the Lord
